Today is labor day.

What is the purpose behind labor day?
It is a day in which sales are offered to all wanting to take advantage of great deals. That must have been the idea behind setting this day aside based on the emails and ads tempting me to go spend some money.
This is the history of Labor Day from the U.S. Department of Labor "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.". I believe that the current national unemployment rate is almost 10%. That means a lot of us are not in the labor movement today as labor day is celebrated. I continue to hope and pray that things will turn around soon for those wanting to work that can not find jobs.
I expressed my concern regarding the closing of local businesses in an earlier blog (OK, the one before this one). My eyes have been open to all the closed up businesses in my area. Buildings that used to have four or five businesses open now only have one or two. There used to be plenty of service oriented businesses to choose from but not so much now. There isn't a lot of extra money being spent or a willingness to spend it either. Those that are still working are guarded with their budgets. Costs have gone up and pay for the working class is going down. The working class is not going to see a bailout any time soon.
The goal to ride out this economic storm is a good one shared by many of us. We continue to plant and nurture our goals in hope of an abundant harvest later.
