The intention was to keep the goal farm a positive spot on the web. There are plenty of places to find rants and raves about the tough times we are in now. Google will return plenty of places to get your blood pressure up no matter what your political beliefs are.
It can be hard to pursue a goal when life changing events impact your "normal" life and knock you for a loop. It must feel like being knocked off a ladder emotionally to lose your job, business, or home. But that is what is happening all around us every day.
The local rental business I've used since 1994 is now out of business. The national company is still around but the local store is gone. It is around a month since I last rented from them. The staff were always helpful and friendly. Most of the staff had been there before 1994 and through three ownership changes.
I'm sure these good people were blindsided by going out of business and being out of a job. Most of us grow up hearing that we need to do good in school, find a good job, and work hard at what we do. We used to make things in the USA but "Made in USA" is getting harder and harder to find on products. The CEO's and shareholders are raking in the big bucks by shipping our jobs offshore. These bigger profits have left the USA with service or construction jobs.
This blog entry was originally going to be about most goals being good goals. That changed when I noticed the local rental business gone. It is clear that there are goals that are not good. The goal to increase profits at the expense of workers is a bad goal. The goal to increase profits at the expense of the working class is a bad goal. The goal to get elected by selling out the working class in favor of the rich is a bad goal.
A good goal is to elect working class citizens instead of the rich. The idea that the rich must be smarter or more worthy of election has not proven to be true.
Another good goal is to see past marketing gimmicks, for products and politicians.
