N.A.F.T.A

Not Another Flat Tax Argument!

Did the title get you?

This is not about the trading agreement but it is a different flat tax idea.

It seems that most of us get caught paying City, County, State, and Federal taxes. Some are in the form of income, property, business, or sales tax. It is as though every governmental agency wants to raid your wallet in one way or another. The working class keep on paying more and more for what seems like less and less for our money.

Rule #1 - There are no exemptions.
Rule #2 - There are no deductions.
Rule #3 - The flat rate is 25% of your gross.

The government gets one penny from every four you earn.

Law #1 - No more property tax.
Law #2 - No more sales tax (gas, cigarettes, booze, etc...).
Law #3 - No more "Fees" (taxes by another name).

Our income tax is distributed as follows:
  1. 10% to the Federal government
  2. 5% to State government
  3. 5% to City/Town government
  4. 5% to an Emergency management/Rainy day fund
I did a quick calculation and it works out that I would take home just a little less than I do now each payday. The savings kick in when I spend my money which I can control how much or how little I spend.

There, this idea took about 10 - 15 minutes to come up with. Sure, there is still a lot to figure out and it is far from being ready to implement but I can wait a month or two.

I'm not proposing (Not) another Flat Tax (argument). The simple point that I'm trying to get across is that gridlock we see in our local governments and in Washington DC is a clear indication that they just are not trying hard enough.

I understand that the main focus of candidates once they are elected is getting re-elected for another term. This behavior is not party particular, they all do it. The other factor that contributes to the gridlock is the "If the idea didn't come from my party I'm not even going to work on it" attitude.

That's fine, if our government can't get it done, it is up to the rest of us to get it done. The elected officials have stopped representing the people a long time ago and are voting their parties agenda not our will. It's time we got our voice back even if this means tossing them out after one term regardless of party.

We can not compete financially against the special interests but we can beat them at the polls every election. We will have to work together if they can't.

It won't be easy because most races come out where the winning candidate or initiative wins with 50.1 percent of the votes. That means that 49.9 percent of those that bothered to vote are already against the candidate or initiative.

I'd bet that most of us are closer to agreeing on issues than we realize. I'd bet we could come to agreement on a lot of issues if we would look at the issues and ignore the negative, misleading, and flat out false advertising.

Well, I'd better save some for another day. I'd really like to get your comments and suggestions on how we can unite to get things done.

And... I don't have an editor so let me know where I goofed and didn't come across clearly. Spell check is great but it doesn't help with the then/than there/their your/you're stuff that happens when I write.

Think I'll go look into that there "Dragon" software thing.
